Governance

The Iowa Commission of Libraries has the rule-making authority for the State Library, and receives and approves its budget.  It also appoints the State Librarian.  The Commission is responsible for seeing that the State Library fulfills its mission to advocate for Iowa libraries and promote excellence and innovation in library services in order to provide statewide access to information for all Iowans.

The State Library is a division of the Iowa Department of Education.

  • Administrative Rules for the State Library

    Administrative rules are similar to policies and are written by the State of Iowa executive branch. They have the full force and effect of law. The State Library's administrative rules are in Chapter 286 of the Iowa Administrative Code under Libraries and Information Services Division of the Iowa Department of Education.
