State Library Staff Attend National Book Festival in DC
More than 100,000 attend event featuring authors, Letters About Literature winners, state booths and more.
This is what the Iowa booth looked like from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, September 29
The Iowa Center for the Book, State Library of Iowa, was represented at the National Book Festival in Washington, DC on Saturday, September 29. Barb Corson, Karon King and Annette Wetteland of the State Library greeted thousands of visitors at the Iowa booth in the Pavilion of the States. They provided visitors with information about literacy programs and events in Iowa libraries, as well as other interesting facts about the state.
A highlight of this year's event was Audrey Keranen from Iowa City, a national winner of the Letters About Literature program who read her letter to an enthusiastic crowd in the Teens and Children Pavilion. Audrey is the second Iowan to be named a national winner in the five years Iowa has participated. Edward Chen, formerly of Ames, won in 2005. Six national winners are chosen annually.
The 2007 National Book Festival is organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush.
