Books
Books are non-periodical printed publications bound in hard or soft
covers, or in loose-leaf format. Count serials and government
documents as books. Exclude current print subscriptions to magazines
and newspapers.
Reference Books
Non-circulating books.
Audio Materials
A generic term for material on which sounds (only) are stored (recorded) and that can be reproduced (played back) mechanically or electronically, or both. This includes records, audiocassettes, audiocartridges, audiodiscs, audioreels, talking books, and other sound recordings. Items which are packaged together as a unit (e.g., 10 audio tapes, 3 video tapes, 4 compact disks) and are generally checked out as a unit, should be counted as one physical unit.
Video Materials
These are materials on which pictures are recorded, with or without sound. Electronic playback reproduces pictures, with or without sound, using a television receiver or monitor. Items which are packaged together as a unit (e.g., 3 video tapes, 4 compact disks, 2 DVD's) and are generally checked out as a unit, should be counted as one physical unit.
Computer Software Packages
Includes procedures and associated documentation that instruct the
computer to perform certain types of tasks, in contrast to the physical
components or devices of a computer (hardware) (for example, Word, Access,
Excel, etc.)
If the software is loaded on multiple computers, count
the number of licenses owned by the library. For MS Office, count
each program as 1 software package.
Count only those software packages that are on or used by computers in the
library.
Boxed sets
Count multiple items in a boxed set as 1 circulation, unless the items are individually bar-coded.
