Along with the TESS database, the United States Patent and Trademark Office recommends that you conduct a trademark search at a Patent and Trademark Depository Library.  Their 6-step strategy includes the use of several USPTO manuals along with the TESS database.   State Library staff will gladly walk you through these steps, call 515- 242-6541, fax 515- 281-4118, or e-mail us patent@mail.lib.state.ia.us.

Expired U.S. Trademarks

Although copies of all U.S. Trademarks can be obtained through the State Library of Iowa (given a registration), there is no comprehensive index to expired marks prior to 1980, only printed annual indexes.
