Request Items not Found in the Locator With a Blank Form

  1. Locate and verify the bibliographic information of the needed item.
    • Search for an item not found on the SILO Locator in WorldCat or any Iowa library’s catalog on the Internet.  Find a list of Iowa Libraries in the Iowa Library Directory.
  2. Record the bibliographic and location information. Find the lending library’s seven digit Locator code in the Iowa Library Directory.
  3. Log in to SILO Interlibrary Loan.
  4. Verify that the holding libraries are active SILO ILL Participants by checking the Participating Libraries list:
    • From the SILO ILL Main menu select "Access Iowa Library Directory/Library Account Information"
    • Select "View List of ILL Participating Libraries"
    • Verify that the library is not suspended from lending
  5. Navigate back to the Main Menu and select the Choose a Blank Form to Request Items not found in the SILO Locator option.
  6. Click on the Submit Request button.

This form is only used to request items not found on SILO Locator, but located and verified elsewhere.  Iowa Interlibrary Loan protocols apply.

  6.  Enter the name of the library staff member to contact if there are questions about the request. 

  7.  Type citation information in the form.

  8.  Use the pull-down menu to select the item format.

  9.  Be sure the item is verified and enter the verification source.  Examples of sources include “Article First” “OCLC” and “Local catalog”.

 10.  Enter the seven digit Locator Code of the potential lenders to create the lender string.

 11.  Click on Submit ILL Request
