Cool Web Sites for Teacher Librarians

Here are some more cool web sites from the September and October 2005 issues of Connected Newsletter: The K-12 Guide to Technology Integration. (Compiled by Michele Leininger, State Library of Iowa)

Dr. Sue LeBeau's site: http://www.suelebeau.com/ - There are many terrific links on her site, including an exhaustive list of Search Engines. The sites are not just of interest to kids or homework either

- the All About Writing links has some great stuff for everyone and Monthly Holidays and Celebrations link has great idea-starters for decorating and/or displays in the library.

Terri Husted's Math Page: http://people.clarityconnect.com/webpages/terri/terri.html or http://tinyurl.com/2ttjd - Looking for some new links for your homework page or some fun math-related links on your library's kid's page? Here is a website to explore that will help you find both!

BBC's Children's Page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/ - A fun site to browse through and see what children across the ocean are looking at and doing (and you'll discover it's not all that different!). The site is amazingly interactive and has a lot of fun things to do and look at.

State Department's Youth Page: http://future.state.gov/ - Great site for both homework and global exploration, it has a lot of information for students, particularly those in middle and high school.

Geology of the National Parks: http://3dparks.wr.usgs.gov/ - This site has a mind-boggling array of 3-D images from National Parks (and info on how to get your own 3-D glasses), as well as other images, maps and links to official park websites. If you like nature photos (regardless of their 3-D status), you will love this site!

Brooklyn Expedition's Latin America Site: http://www.brooklynexpedition.org/latin/gateway2.html or http://tinyurl.com/a6voz. Interesting to look at just to see a great collaboration between two museums and a public library, this site has all kinds of things to explore - textiles, rituals and customs, and celebrations, to name a few. But the interesting thing about this website is its organization - each page just gives brief information and more places to click on if you want to know more. No page overwhelms and they are all beautiful - including the links to books at the library!
