Acceptable Use of SILO Hosted Services

SILO hosted services include DNS, E-Mail, and Web hosting services provided by the State Library of Iowa through the SILO Program at Iowa State University.  SILO hosted services are provided by the State Library of Iowa to support open communications and exchange of information, as well as to provide the opportunity for collaborative library-related work.  The State Library of Iowa encourages the use of electronic communications by Iowa libraries. Like any resources made available to libraries by the State, use of SILO hosted services are a revocable privilege. The use of state-provided hosted services must be for library-related activities and not for personal business, for-profit activities, commercial advertising, entertainment or other use that reflects poorly on the library, the State Library of Iowa, or the State. Misuse of SILO hosted services or the unauthorized use and/or abuse of state property and equipment could be grounds for immediate suspension of service.

Iowa public library staff and people authorized by Iowa public library directors may use SILO hosted services. Authorized users must be, in some way, related to, or connected with, an Iowa public library.
