A. J. Small Special Collections
| Iowa Library Services (ILS)/State Library - Law Library’s special collection is a standing testament to Mr. Arthur James Small’s forty-one years of service to the State of Iowa. A.J. Small was appointed to the position of State Law Librarian in 1896 by then-Governor Francis Drake. he served in that capacity until his death in 1937. While acquiring, housing and providing access to legal information has been the mission of the State Law Library since its inception, it was Mr. Small who had the foresight to target the English, Roman and International legal materials that were integral to the foundation of the United States’ legal system and governance as a whole. It is with much pride that we engage in an ongoing effort to preserve and store some of the seminal documents that would have aided our pioneer lawmakers in the formation of the great State of Iowa. |
