Books, articles, etc.

All of us need information to do our job well. Researching a topic mayNew Iowa Books enhance a report, improve a presentation, or help you make the right decision. The State Library can make the research task easier.

Through the State Library's document delivery service, employees of the State of Iowa may receive books, articles, and other information at their desks, without having to take time away to go to the library. Call, e-mail or click on the link to the left to request the information you need, and it will be delivered to your office.

Checkout Policy

Anyone who lives in Iowa may check out materials from the State Library. To receive a library card, visit or call the State Library, or click on Borrower-Registration-Form.pdf

Books are checked out for three weeks and may be renewed via telephone, fax, or e-mail.

The State Library does not loan recent journals, or any medical journals. However, staff will copy articles for customers and send them via e-mail, fax or mail. There is no charge for copies to state employees.

Borrowed books may be returned to the library via local or U.S. mail, or may be returned to your local public library which will forward them to the State Library.

State employees who need books or articles that the State Library does not own may use the interlibrary loan service. Please fill out the request form  or contact Rinda Kramme 515-281-6920 for more information.

The State Library does not charge fines for overdue materials.
