These state documents, on a variety of subjects, have recently been added to our collection. State employees may request that any of these items be sent to them. The Office of Energy Independence presents Iowa’s second annual energy independence plan, which highlights accomplishments achieved thus far and makes recommendations for the coming year. This plan shows that Iowa has made significant progress in building the foundation for reaching energy independence in just the past year. Continued investment and further efforts will enable Iowa to push toward even greater advances, while creating new jobs and diversifying local economies.

FY08 Enrich Iowa: State Funding for Iowa Libraries

Issued by the Department of Education, State Library of Iowa.

Enrich Iowa includes three programs: Direct State Aid to public libraries, and the Open Access and Access Plus library resource sharing programs.  This report shows that Iowans checked out more than four million library items through the Open Access and Access Plus programs last year, and also demonstrates that Direct State Aid funding made it possible for local public libraries to upgrade their services to Iowans.  In addition to the statewide report, there is enclosed information for each legislator on the use of Direct State Aid funds by libraries within each legislative district.

Handbook

Handbook of Iowa Boating Laws and Responsibilities

Issued by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Bureau.

This handbook is comprised of two sections: It's the Law, which includes: registering and titling, registration fees, display of numbers, legal operating age, required equipment, unlawful operation, boating under the influence, reporting accidents, enforcement, environmental restrictions, and laws governing PWC and vessels towing skiers. And Boating Basics, which includes: vessel length and capacity, fueling, float plans, navigational rules, U.S. Aids to Navigation, weather and other boating emergencies, and personal watercraft (PWC) basics.  Also included in this handbook are pages and links to other useful information for boaters: a boater's telephone directory, Iowa motor regulations for lakes, and information on the public use of waters for navigation purposes.

This publication is your resource for information about: Upland Game Hunting Regulations, Deer Hunting Regulations, Fall Turkey Hunting Regulations, Spring Turkey Hunting Regulations, Nonresident Spring Turkey Hunting Information, Sunrise-Sunset Table.  This is not a complete set of hunting and trapping laws, but contains the information you are most likely to need to participate safely in these outdoor activities.

2008 I-CASH Annual Report, Helping Farmers Stay Alive and Well

Issued by the University of Iowa, College of Public Health, Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, Iowa's Center for Agricultural Safety and Health.

This report looks at the successes and advancements made in each of the programs sponsored, developed or participated in by member organizations of the center.  The various programs have been established in the fields of farm health and safety, and are designed to reduce the incidence of disabilities, resulting from disease or injury, suffered by persons engaged in agriculture.  The University of Iowa is primarily responsible for the management of agricultural health and injury programs at the center.  Iowa State University of Science and Technology is primarily responsible for the management of the agricultural safety programs of the center.

Iowa Aeronautical Chart

Issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation, Office of Aviation.

This aeronautical chart of Iowa's air transportation system displays all eight commercial service airports and 103 general aviation airports throughout the state.  It provides flight planning information for pilots and depictions of Class C airports in the state and near its borders.

Iowa Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 2008

Issued by the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, State Accounting Enterprise.

The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) is presented in three main sections.  The Introductory Section includes a financial overview, a discussion of Iowa's economy, and an organizational chart for state government.  The Financial Section includes the State Auditor's Report, management's discussion and analysis, audited basic financial statements and notes, and the underlying combined and individual fund financial statements and supporting schedules.  The Statistical Section sets forth selected unaudited economic, financial trend, and demographic information for the state, on a multi-year basis.

Iowa Historic Digital Aerial Photos: A Window to the Past...A Resource for Today

Issued by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa Brownfield Redevelopment Program.

What if there was a way to look into Iowa's past, to see what kinds of industries and operations were on a site 70 years ago...to see where former buildings were located,...where quarries, city dumps, or petroleum tanks existed, but are now gone?  Through an innovative project, designed to provide ease of access to the public, it is now possible to "look back in time" through the Iowa Historic Digital Aerial Photo Project.  Using state-of-the-art computer technology, Iowa State University and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources have teamed up to collect, sort, and transfer historic aerial photos into a digital format.

Iowa Motorcycle Operator Manual

Issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Division.

The purpose of this manual is to educate the reader to help avoid crashes while safely operating a motorcycle.  For this edition, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation has updated and expanded the content of the original manual.  These revisions reflect: The latest findings of motorcycle-safety research; comments and guidance provided by the motorcycling, licensing, and traffic-safety communities; and expanded alcohol and drug information.  In promoting improved licensing programs, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation works closely with state licensing agencies.  The Foundation has helped more than half the states in the nation adopt the "Motorcycle Operator Manual" for use in their licensing systems.

Iowa's Drug Control Strategy 2009

Issued by the Governor's Office of Drug Control.

Iowa's Drug Control Strategy serves as a comprehensive blueprint for coordinated prevention, treatment, and enforcement actions to protect citizens from the dangers posed by substance abuse.  This holistic plan, developed by Iowa's Drug Policy Advisory Council, embraces a performance-oriented process to align resources with long-term goals, and supports three desired results: All Iowans are healthy and drug-free, Iowa communities are free from illegal drugs, all Iowans are safe from drug abusing offenders.  This report also contains a mix of recent accomplishments and pending challenges.

Issued by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Watershed Improvement Section.

In 2008, Iowans kept going strong in their efforts to improve our rivers, lakes, and streams.  In the stories we've collected in this booklet, the data show cleaner water, but the fruits of Iowans' labor are evident beyond those numbers.  The proof in these areas is cleaner drinking water and better water for swimming, fishing and boating that can translate into increased tourism and dollars for local communities.
