Search Copyrights

Where can you search copyrights?

You can search copyrights since 1978 through the United States Copyright Office Web site located in the Library of Congress, Washington, DC

Where can you register for copyright protection?

Register for copyrights through the United States Copyright Office at  www.copyright.gov/.   Their address and phone number is:

U.S. Copyright Office
101 Independence Ave. S.E.
Washington, D.C. 20559-6000
202- 707-3000 Washington, DC

How much do they cost, how long do they last, and what protection is given?

Copyrights generally cost $30.00, last the lifetime of the author (plus 70 years), and give the creator the exclusive (sole) right to reproduce, display, perform, and prepare adaptations of the work.  Copyrights keep others from using the work without the owner's permission.
