Ask a Librarian! Patents and Trademarks Question Form

Staff at the State Library will be happy to answer questions you have on patents or trademarks.

Welcome!

The State Library is Iowa's designated U.S. Patents and Trademarks Depository, providing access to U.S. patents and trademarks through automated and paper search tools.

Patents and trademarks information is available to you in the following ways:

  • If you are searching for a specific patent number or trademark number, the State Library can provide a photocopy in response to your request.
  • If you are trying to determine the existence of a patent or trademark (a patent or trademark search), please visit the State Library to perform a search. Note: Patent searches average 4-8 hours.
  • Ask a question about patents and trademarks using the form below.

After filling out the form, click on "Submit."  The request will be sent to a State Library Patents and Trademark desk.  Should you have difficulty with the form, you may also submit questions by telephone, (515) 281-4102, or email is@lib.state.ia.us.

This form will be checked twice daily Monday through Friday, except state holidays. If you need assistance immediately, please call the State Library Patents and Trademark desk at the number above.
