Legal Research Using Westlaw

This introductory training class will acquaint new users with the basic features of the "Westlaw For Patrons" database which is available for free on the public-access computers at the State Law Library of Iowa, located on the second floor of the State Capitol.

Instruction will cover how to find legal documents such as cases, statutes, and administrative rules or federal regulations by citation; and how to verify the status of case law or statutes.  Searching Westlaw's database of over 750 law journal and law review titles will also be explored.  There will be time for questions and individual hands-on practice sessions.  The ability to locate basic legal information is a valuable job skill that can make a difference in any career!

To arrange a class, please contact Barbara Corson at the State Library 515-281-4352 or 515-248-4483.
