The City of Ankeny is accepting applications for the fulltime position of Teen Services Librarian with the Kirkendall Public Library.
Under the Public Services Manager’s supervision, performs professional library functions requiring specialized knowledge and expertise in all areas of public library services especially those areas relating to tweens, teens, and new adults. Knowledge of working with parents, caregivers and educators is also required.
Starting salary is $27.79 - $32.17 per hour, depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits.
Hours: 40 hours per week; evenings and weekends as needed to meet programming/service needs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as team leader for the Young Adult Services Department.
Plans prepares and implements a variety of programming for various community segments, especially tween/teen and new adults services including a Summer Reading program.
In collaboration with Adult Services Librarian assumes responsibility for the library’s makerspace including programs for a variety of ages, inventory and upkeep of equipment, and development of new programs and resources.
Provides outreach services and programming.
Plans, organizes, and implements services and materials for tweens/teens and new adults, educators, parents and teachers to encourage lifelong learning opportunities. Assists patrons in locating needed resources and provides research, instruction and assistance on library skills, research skills and usage as needed.
Provides Readers Advisory appropriate to reading level and interest for young adult department by composing bibliographies, book reviews, book talks, and library displays. Assists in the communication and marketing of programs, services, and resources by working with other appropriate team members to increase access to library resources, programming and services.
Makerspace Responsibilities:
Plans, organizes, and implements programming for all ages in the library’s makerspace. Provides 1:1 assistance as requested by patrons utilizing makerspace stations and Resources.
Maintains, manages, and updates equipment and resources in the makerspace. Recruits, trains, and manages makerspace volunteers.
Assists in the communication and marketing of programs, services, and resources in makerspace.
Stays updated on library trends regarding makerspaces.
Collection Management Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Collection Development Librarian, assists with research, evaluation, and management through reviewing, selecting, weeding, and maintaining the youth collection. May also recommend materials for the main collection.
Assists the Collection Development Librarian in determining reading and interest levels and placement within the collection.
May assist in collection development of others as requested.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree, MLS preferred.
Willingness to obtain State of Iowa Public Librarian Certification (if applicable). Intermediate computer skills required.
Excellent communication and customer service skills required.
Previous experience working with tweens/teens and/or new adults desirable. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
